Common Ways To Make Hard Water Soft At Home

There are times we add detergent into water or use bar soap in water that just seems to “refuse” to lather. While we are rethinking the choice of soap we use, it does not strike our minds that maybe the soap or detergent company did not con you at all. In fact, you should stop giving the poor detergent that suspicious look wondering why you bought it, in fact, is the water’s fault.

Water can be difficult to work with at times because the water you are using is Hard Water. This is water that has naturally occurring minerals in it that have not been removed or at least their presence suppressed. There are a couple of ways you can quickly solve your issue, some of which require you to make an investment for your house.

1. Boil it.

This is the easiest way to get rid of the hardness of your water. Often, people do this for their drinking water and it is actually the most recommended method for your drinking water. It has several advantages to it like killing germs in the water which makes it all the more suitable for you to take. Sediments usually settle at the bottom of the saucepan or boiling instrument you use so wait for it to cool and settle so that you can have your soft water.

2. Use vinegar

Vinegar is often used for water in dish-washing machines to soften the water if it is hard. You can also use this method to remove stains from some fabrics while you wash them. It is also wonderful when washing heavy fabric cloths because hard water makes them stiff and tough to deal with. Add distilled vinegar to the water you are about to use. It is also amazing when you want to remove scale build up.

3. Washing soda

Also called sodium carbonate, it is among the best methods of making hard water soft on a budget for hand washed clothes. It is not recommended that you use it in water sources of your house that have pipes connected to them because it may end up clogging them because of the calcium and magnesium carbonates in the water.

Sodium carbonate is soluble in water and does not affect the color or smell or the water or clothes you want to wash.

4. Ion exchanger

This is a small addition you add to your kitchen faucets and are perfect for softening running water. They are fair in terms of pricing but they do not remove much of the contaminants in the water.

5. Install water softener in your home

A more long term decision is water softener installation for the hard water issues. The cost is fairly higher than the other methods of dealing with water hardness but is worth it. There are many types of these machines and it is best for you is you do your research so you know which one to pick, depending on the size of your wallet.
